BREAKING NEWS: The MACC raids Ho Hup's office

Is the MACC trying to gather evidence or trying to destroy evidence?

(Malaysia Today) -- The MACC raided Ho Hup’s office a few minutes ago and confiscated all the documents that would implicate the Attorney-General, Gani Patail, in acts of corruption.

The question is: did they raid Ho Hup’s office and confiscate the documents that will implicate the AG so that they can make a case against him or so that the evidence can be destroyed?

Let us wait for further news from the MACC -- or at least for an announcement from them that the MACC has investigated the allegation against the AG and have found that the allegations are unfounded.

Anyway, if the MACC does destroy the evidence, then Malaysia Today will published copies of this evidence that have been destroyed and nail both the MACC's balls and the AG's balls in one go.

In case you have forgotten, this was what Malaysia Today reported earlier:

After that, Ho Hup’s auditors discovered that Gani Patail’s assistance to Vincent Lye went beyond just friendship. Vincent Lye had also bribed Gani Patail. But Vincent Lye was a cheapskate and he used Ho Hup’s funds to pay for various renovation works for Gani Patail’s second wife's house in Seremban.

Malaysians mark independence in shadow of ethnic distrust

By Julia Yeow, M&C

As Malaysians mark the 54th anniversary of their independence, the usual pomp and pageantry comes at a time of increasingly tense ethnic and religious relations.

Malaysia prides itself on its thriving multicultural society and the freedom of religion against the backdrop of a majority-Muslim population, but racial tensions have always simmered under the peaceful surface of this relatively prosperous South-East Asian nation.

Ethnic Malays, who are almost all Muslims, make up about two-thirds of the population, while ethnic Chinese and Indians who are largely Christians, Buddhists and Hindus, constitute a large minority.

A survey conducted by independent polling group Merdeka Center this year revealed that the number of Malaysians who felt that ethnic relations were good had dropped to 66 per cent, from 78 per cent five years ago.

The poll also showed a particularly high level of distrust among Malaysians of different ethnic backgrounds.

'In our view, the survey findings reflect a significant shift in Malaysian public thinking - the optimism of the mid-2000s appears to have given way to increased insecurities and distrust, which is in part due to the current competitive political environment,' the centre said this month after its survey results were announced.

Race and religion have always been sensitive issues here, but interracial clashes in recent years have exacerbated the growing ethnic divide and non-Muslims increasingly complain of having their rights trampled on by a majority-Muslim government.

Last year, the Home Ministry appealed against a High Court decision to allow non-Muslims to use the word Allah to mean God, a ruling that had riled most Muslims.

The case led to at least eight churches being attacked, including one in the capital Kuala Lumpur city which was firebombed.

No casualties were reported in any of the attacks, but many observers noted that the incident brought to light the fragile and tense relationships within multi-religious Malaysia.

Despite Prime Minister Najib Razak's stated commitment to closing the racial divide since he took office in 2009, Malaysia's political, education and economic structures continue to be deeply entrenched along racial and religious lines.

Since its independence from Britain in 1957, Malaysia has been ruled by the National Front, a coalition of 14 race-based parties, all claiming to represent and fight for the cause of specific ethnic groups.

Adding to the constant reminder of ethnic division is the decades-old affirmative action plan, the New Economic Policy, which favours Malays.

The worrying level of ethnic tensions of late has been blamed largely on irresponsible politicians playing the race card.

Government policies on almost every area - from education to economic and electoral reform - continue to be 'articulated from an ethnic framework, rather than seeking to find commonalities,' said Denison Jayasooria, a lead researcher in ethnic studies in the National University of Malaysia.

'This articulation and the attempt to champion ethnic policies has had an impact on contemporary Malaysian society,' Denison said.

A poll conducted by the Merdeka Center in August also revealed that Najib's popularity has suffered, with his approval rating dropping 6 percentage points over a period of three months from May.

While the rising cost of living and continued concerns of a high crime rate were some of the major reasons for the drop, observers noted that Najib's handling of racial and religious issues in recent times may have also contributed to his lagging support.

His '1Malaysia' campaign, which aims to break down racial divisions and create a single, unifying Malaysian identity, has been criticised as hypocritical vote-grabbing after his ruling coalition suffered badly in the 2008 general elections.

'I don't believe in Najib's 1Malaysia. It's just lip service,' said Maria Hasan, an ethnic Malay Muslim journalist.

'The reality on the ground is that there is an increasingly wide racial divide,' she said.

Denison said that while Najib had put in place positive reform policies, he continued to 'remain silent' in addressing racially tinged statements coming from members of his ruling United Malays National Organisation.

But despite the grim outlook for ethnic and religious harmony, Denison said he remains hopeful that the growing number of moderate Malaysians would respond rationally to sensitive situations.

'In the long run, Malaysians will reject extremism of all kinds,' he said.

'The Malaysian spirit ... will draw us towards balance.'

ADVERTISEMENT CIMB Malaysiakini: Nazir Razak bangang STYLE!

melayu silver spoon.

In the next few episodes, MYKMU.NET will address the attitudes, actions and movement of some Government Link Company (GLC) either consciously or unconsciously, whether organized or not the matter has been sabotaging the Barisan Nasional government bit by bit.

Perhaps some GLCs are considered Government "Scope" Company, namely whether they melingkupkan their own government or the state has melingkup.

CIMB Bank Helps Malaysiakini Melingkupkan BN

CIMB is a combination of several banks that originally bertunggakkan Bank Bumiputra Berhad. It was later changed to Bumiputra Commerce Berhad, and finally to CIMB is after the merger with Southern Bank and re-branding (check out the rebranding).

Although the indigenous political groups are not satisfied with the indigenous name of abortion but not many publicly protested for not being seen as racist.

An UMNO leaders in jest said there was still the word Malay in the Malay and bumiputera CIMB just not a priority anymore. He said CIMB was the first bank in Malaysia as it singakatan to the Chinese, Indians, Malays Bank.

Perhaps because his priority was Chinese, then Malays can not expect anything special to the bank, although it is led by the Prime Minister's brother, Nazir Razak.

CIMB very surprising not only satisfy even the majority of the Chinese keeper was native, but also willing to advertise in the Malaysiakini.com, news portals that serve as a tool destroying the Barisan Nasional and the Malaysian government.

Malaysiakini published news every day bad government propaganda, the Prime Minister, Barisan Nasional, UMNO and the Malays, but CIMB-dominated Malay government and the blind faith they continue to provide sponsorship worth perhaps millions of dollars a year to Malaysiakini.com.

What should a GLC, led by the brother of the Prime Minister provide advertisements to the Malaysiakini news portal which not only work down the BN since 1999, and even rumored to receive a lot of provisions in the home and abroad to undermine the existing government.

At the same time we have never even CIMB advertise or provide advertising for the Daily Herald newspaper published and owned by Bumiputera entrepreneurs and employees of nearly 95% are indigenous.

If you want to be seen daily Sinar contribution to the government and the country far better than that Malaysiakini is only contributing to the government's hatred of the younger generation. Just look at the issue of Electoral Election.

Malaysiakini's attempt to cast doubt and instill propaganda that the government committed fraud in the electoral roll even has several times proved their accusations and propaganda is not true.

Daily Herald had a lot of time conducting their own investigation and prove that almost 90% claim diterbirkan by Malaysiakini is false and reckless nature. However, the portalcontinued to publish seditious material to instill in the minds of today's readers that the government corrupt, a liar and not transparent in the electoral roll.

However, CIMB still advertise in Malaysiakini, and do not contribute anything to the DailyHerald.

We are certain that CIMB will provide reasons for the publication of an ad is determinedby the three companies given contracts by the bank to manage the ads CIMB. Thesereasons often given by GLC for passing the buck or is "stupid moron" in the advertisingworld or do they want to help destroy the BN.

Is not strange provisions of tens of millions a year by the GLCs like CIMB, but the decision to advertise in any fully determined by a third party?

Now we want answers from Nazir Razak of CIMB why continue to advertise in the portalsof the pro-opposition news to sabotage his brother's own efforts to restore the country's image and strengthen the Barisan Nasional?

Should he continue as CEO of CIMB if he failed to deal with matters such as to make theCIMB as contributing indirectly to work down the BN government?

Harakah: "Implementation of hudud does not require change in Constitution - Dr. Abdul Aziz Bari"

(Pixs for illustration purpose only)

The September 20-23, 2010 issue of Harakah carried an interview with Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Bari, Professor of Law at International Islamic University, regarding implementing hudud (Islamic Criminal Law) in Malaysia. The interview focused on Karpal Singh's (MP for Bukit Gelugor, Penang and Chairman of Democratic Action Party) claim that Malaysia is a secular country. Excerpts of the interview are translated below:

Harakah: Recently, Professor reacted strongly to Karpal's statement that our country is secular. What's the link between being secular and implementing hudud in Malaysia?

Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Bari: The secular issue was raised as an excuse to block the implemention of hudud. In other words, this secular stand can be used as a filter to reject or accept something. This departs from regarding the Constitition as the highest law from which all other laws develop. According to this secular view, laws based on religion cannot be implemented.

Harakah: Is this claim true?

Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Bari: This claim is not true as Karpal based his opinion on the case of Che Omar bin Che Soh. This case was decided by the High Court -- before it was transfered to the Federal Court-- and presided by Tun Salleh Abas in 1988.

However, the case does not state that Malaysia is secular... It merely states that the Constitution is the highest law and maintains the dichotomy of secular laws. Anyway, the problem with this case is that the judges did not scrutinise the Reid Report and White Paper.

Harakah: What examples show that our country's Constitution is not secular?

Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Bari: The clearest example is Article 3(1) of the Federal Constitution which states, amongst other things, that "Islam is the religion of the Federation", which places Islam as the "faith" or "religion" of the country.

Harakah: How about those who say that Article 3(1) needs to be interpreted with reference to the admission by our former Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman that Article 3(1) does not affect the secularity of our country?

Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Bari: There're several ways to refute this argument. First, we're not sure whether Tunku understood the meaning of secular country. If we recall what Tunku did - like forming the Religious Department of the Prime Minister's Office now called JAKIM -- it's clear he said one thing, did another.

A secular country cannot make provisions to build mosques, employ imam and mufti, build religious school and other things. This is because this privilege is not given to other religions and this is not fair.

Second, Article 3(1) is clear enough and without any doubt. So why do we need to refer to the thoughts or statements of Tunku or the Reid Commmssion Report?

Harakah: Another argument .. is that the Constitution has an original structure that cannot be changed even with the approval of two-third majority in Parliament. Please explain, Professor.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Bari: From the research I've done, there's no need to change the Constitution to implement hudud...

Harakah: Looks like there is no obstacle to implementing hudud?

Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Bari: Yes, to me, it only requires Parliament or a State Assembly to approve an Act or Enactment for the provision of offences and punishment under hudud.

Harakah: Recently, Professor was quoted by the media as having said that hudud cannot be implemented through a classical approach?

Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Bari: I was talking to media who did not understand hudud; what I said was implementing hudud in a modern country like Malaysia has to be done in the context of Constitution and laws

When you lie...are you not a liar?

Certainly none of the first tier leaders from within both political divide in our country can meet our aspirations of the leader we want. Look all you want, seek for them even within the second tier of political leaders that we now have … you will not find them. It would seem that within Malaysia now there is a dearth of good, responsible and honest politicians.

By Hussein Hamid

When you do wrong it does not matter who you are. UMNO, MCA, MIC or Pakatan Rakyat. When you do wrong then you are wrong! When you lie then you are a liar. And when you profess to be a Muslim you do not fornicate outside marriage and sodomy is a sin! So for those of you who are die hard supporters of Najib or Anwar, of Pakatan Rakyat or Barisan Nasional, you must step back and listen to your heart. Listen to that beating heart, put your hand on that beating heart and ask yourself what does our country and our people need?

Do our country and people need a change in Government? Do we need a Najib or an Anwar to be our Prime Minister? Does our country need Pakatan Rakyat to be in power?

What our country needs are decent, responsible and honest leaders who will govern our country in our interest. Not theirs. Find these leaders and we will find our way out of this mess that our country is now in.

Where do we look for these leaders? From within Barisan Nasional or from within Pakatan Rakyat? Certainly none of the first tier leaders from within both political divide in our country can meet our aspirations of the leader we want. Look all you want, seek for them even within the second tier of political leaders that we now have … you will not find them. It would seem that within Malaysia now there is a dearth of good, responsible and honest politicians.

And there are some amongst you that have asked me to name one politician now in Malaysia that can meet the standards I have asked of them – accountability, responsibility and honesty. You tell me no such politician exists!

My friends, they do not exist because we are prepared to accept something less than the best. We are prepared to close one eye and shut the other … read that again … close one eye and shut the other … and in so doing we get Mahathir, Najib, Muhyiddin, that Din guy and Anwar to be in position to claim that they are our leaders. They claim that they are our leaders … we do not claim that they are … at least I do not!

So how has it come to this? How is it that we have a Mahathir that has ruled us for over 3 decades, an Anwar that has been sacked as DPM and has endured sodomy one and is now embroiled in sodomy two and do not forget this Najib too. Najib who has yet to explain to us his involvement in the Altantuya murder and the waste of billions of ringgit of the people's money while he was Minister of Defense? How has it come to pass that these are the people who are currently jostling for a position within the first tier of Malaysian politics? Why is there no Tun Razak, no Hussein Onn, no Tan Chee Koon and no Sambathan (to name a few)?

These people are not around today because we are now prepared to accept less. Our leaders offer bribes to voters to vote for them. We tell ourselves that that is the way of Malaysian politics! Our leaders declare that they will take over the government on such and such a date and when that date passes without anything happening … we excuse his bluff as being part and parcel of Malaysian politics. And yet we fail to blame ourselves for the half past six leaders that we now have right in the first tier of our political parties!

We make Malaysian politics the way it has now become. Corrupt, sleazy, always a "me first" power at all costs abyss of human beings whom we would not want our son or daughter to take as their partners in life!

So where to now? I have made my mistakes too and I would be the first to say these are mistakes that must be corrected. I have begun the process, within myself, to question my stand on a number of issues. I, me and myself will now try to subjugate what are partisan interests and instead put the greater interests of country and our people first. It starts today

Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz is a Malay Malaysian politician from the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), and is as of 2008 a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of parliamentary affairs. In June 2005 Nazri caused controversy when he shouted the phrase “bloody racist” (or variants of it) 28 times in Parliament. A request by opposition Democratic Action Party (DAP) lawmaker Fong Po Kuan for Nazri to take back his comments went unheeded. The incident occurred during a debate on the Malaysian Medical Council’s derecognition of Crimea State Medical University (CSMU) medical degrees; most Malaysian students sent to study there were of Indian extraction.

Nazri was originally also the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of legal affairs and judicial reform. After the 2008 general election, which saw the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition’s majority in Parliament significantly reduced, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi reshuffled his Cabinet and gave Nazri’s legal affairs portfolio to Zaid Ibrahim.

He has also recently (2006) been called the hatchetman of Abdullah, the prime minister of Malaysia, by former prime minister Mahathir, for defending Abdullah in Mahathir’s ongoing criticisms against the government.

He is an alumnus of Malay College Kuala Kangsar.

Criticisms

Opposition Member of Parliament Karpal Singh said Nazri had misled Parliament when he said judges involved in the 1988 Judicial crisis were not sacked but were asked to take early retirement. Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad also refuted Nazri’s suggestion saying Salleh and two of the five other judges involved in the 1988 judicial crisis had not been dismissed but were asked to retire early. He said Tun Salleh Abas was sacked as lord president but obtained a pension on grounds of compassion.
